This highly inidividual piece was great fun to draw, not least because of the difficulty in capturing likeness and accuracy on sketches only a few inches high.

A slight departure from the norm here in that I used coloured pencil on white paper. This allowed me to use the whiteness of the surface to act as the snow, so a lot of negative drawing was used to create the effect of snow-covered branches.

This giraffe caught my eye over at Marwell Zoo and makes for an unusual and carefully balanced pose.

After drawng so much African and Asian wildlife, it\'s been nice to work on something closer to home. This piece lay around half finished for a few months while I worked on commissions so I\'m glad to see it finally finished - I\'ve also incorporated a hint of background which is a rarity.

I decided to begin the year with some challenges, beginning with this unusual view of a cheetah cub from the Rare Species Conservation Centre in Kent.
I\'ve adopted some different techniques to get the correct depth of fur contrasts and clean lines, using layering and a lot of fixative!

I was approached to submit a piece for the HG Wells Festival in Sandgate, so after researching his background and reading some of his books I came up with this drawing.
It shows Wells in silhouette against a starscape background, with a view of Sandgate seafront in the foreground. Wells lived and wrote at Spade House in Sandgate. With this in mind I\'ve tried to evoke the far reaches of Wells\' imagination while still retaining his sense of place in the real world.

Built in 1507, the Weaver\'s House is named after a group of Flemish and Huguenot weavers who fled from France to escape religious persecution in the 16th and 17th Centuries. These Flemish refugees were welcomed by Elizabeth I who gave them the right to trade in Canterbury. She also offered them a special place of worship in the Cathedral, and a Huge not chapel is still there today.

This largely flint-built medieval fortified gate was constructed in 1384. The upper story was added in 1571.
In medieval times the gate stood right on the wharf side, and would have been the main entrance into the town; the road then led up the narrow Quay Lane up to the Custom House.
Built in the 1200s by Carmelite monks, the church was enlarged in the 13th century when the tower was added.
In October 1661 the tower and much of the church collapsed. It was rebuilt by Dutch refugees, and the tower was topped by a copula, giving it a distinctive Flemish appearance.
Since the 13th century a curfew bell has sounded at 8 o\'clock every evening, a practise that continues today.
St Peter\'s is no longer regularly used for services, but hosts art exhibitions(!)
This was a commissioned study of a client\'s parent\'s home in Herne Bay, Kent. I had to manoeuvre the tree slightly to show the house to it\'s fullest, and the resulting picture made a pleasing composition.

This is a drawing of my old primary school, Northbourne Park in Betteshanger, Kent. The drawing was commissioned by the school and has been released as a Limited Edition Giclee print, available in two formats. A percentage of each print sold will be donated to the school to help maintain this wonderful building.
The prints are available in two formats, full scale and a smaller image for those with less wallspace.
Both prints are atttractively presented in a keylined format and are titled in an ornamental script typeface.

The Lychgate was originally designed to protect the coffin and its pallbearers from the weather while they waited for a priest to attend them. Nowadays it often serves a far more picturesque purpose acting as an attractive and historic backdrop for wedding photographs.

It had been a while since I drew any architecture, so what better excuse to tackle this subject, one of the world\'s most famous landmarks. I concentrated on one floor at a time, being careful to note the diminishing curvatures of each level as I worked down, as well as the shadow cast by the sun from the left hand side.

The Bouvier is a powerful, impressive dog with a massive and heavily-coated head and a beard and moustache. The thick beard and shaggy eyebrows give the dog a very distinctive appearance.

The small details in the corners help to express the dog\'s characteristics, that perhaps a sole portrait cannot convey on its own. Each detail is between 2-3" in size, so it was a real challenge to achieve the detail I required.

I chose a background of grey, reds and pinks to compliment the markings of the Rottweiler breed and help bring out the character of the dog.

I very much enjoyed drawing this portrait, not least as the source photograph was excellent. I\'ve given her a soft, warm backgorund to enhance the honey tones of her features.

This is Domino, a liver and white English Springer Spaniel. He proved a tremendous model, so photographing him was a doddle. The client liked the picture so much that he has commissioned a second!
